4 Ways to Know if She's a Real Friend
In life we all need friends. Friends are the ones that catch us when we've fallen. Without them, life is ten times harder.
Having bad friends, friends who aren't really there for you, can be just as bad, though. If a friend leaves when the going gets tough, then you can be sure he's not a good friend. So here are four ways to know if your friend is the real deal.
*Priority*
Is your friend there when you really need them? Or are they always busy trying to get involved with the 'in' crowd? If a friend prioritizes you and the rest of her friends by popularity, she or he needs to go. A true friend will be there when you most need them. If she's constantly letting you down, and hurting you in the process, it's time to say goodbye.
*Communication*
Yes this is a cliche, but it's one for a reason. If your friend is constantly getting mad and not telling you why - that's a problem. The same applies in reverse. Of course, it's also a problem if your friend is ignoring your efforts to talk to them. If you're constantly telling your friend that somethings wrong and she ignores you it's a sign - a sign that she's not a good friend.
*Tension*
If there's a lot of tension between the two of you, something is very wrong. The same applies for if you're constantly getting into fights. The only way to solve this problem is to talk. Be prepared for the talk to end badly. That's not always a bad thing, though. Talking it out and getting angry will be a relief and may allow you to be friends with them in the future. If they refuse to talk, wave them goodbye. In the end, loosing a bad friend will only prevent further harm - for the both of you.
*Personality*
As people grow older, they change. It's a known fact of life and it's perfectly alright. If you're noticing that all the things you once had in common are gone, or that everything you believe in she now opposes maybe it's time to say goodbye. It's ok to let go of old friends and move on to new ones - as long as it's for the right reasons.
All I'm trying to say is that you deserve good friends, real friends. Sometimes it necessary to let go of old friends for your own sake. Your happiness comes first, and good friends can help you with that.

5 Makeup Products You Need
Makeup is a a lot more than some people cut it out to be.
Nowadays, wearing makeup makes you "fake" or "insecure." Personally, I find it sad that people even use the word fake in that connotation.
What, is she plastic? A clone? Not real?
As far as I'm concerned fake isn't a legitimate insult.
Moving past that, as of recently I've started seeing makeup as an art form. On my own face, I don't like putting on a lot of makeup, but I love being challenged to glam up a face that isn't as familiar as my own. To me, it's like painting on a dynamic, 100% unique canvas. I'm still learning and becoming familiar with more intense and artistic makeup, but when it comes to basics I've got you covered.
Here are 5 must have makeup products!
1. Graphic Liner - Makeup Forever
Liquid liner can take your look from a 7 to a 10 in one stroke! It's perfect for framing your eyes or adding a dramatic wing. This liner stays put, and gives a super defined, super black payoff. Unlike some cheaper eyeliners, you don't have to press super hard to get a dark line. The felt tip makes application easy and quick.
2. Super Sizer Mascara - Covergirl
As far as mascaras go, this one is incredible! It makes your lashes thick and incredibly long. Just one coat makes our lashes look like falsies. Of all the mascaras I've ever tried this one is the most stunning.
3. Match Perfection Concealer - Rimmel
When I first got this concealer I thought I would run out of it right away. However, while the tube looks tiny, it has lasted me months. This concealer has great coverage while maintaining a natural look. It also gives a subtle highlight which is perfect for under the eyes.
4. Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder - NYC
This bronzer costs so little and works so well! It gives a great contour and helps accentuate the cheekbones. It doesn't come out orange and works well while still being subtle! This is the perfect option if you're on a budget.
While lipstick is fun and much more opaque, I like saving that for special occasions. This is perfect for a natural tint of red across the lips. It's moisturizing and looks beautiful.

Desk Organization - A Simple Solution
I hate to say it - but summer is almost over.
No more laying around in bed on a Monday afternoon.
*sigh*
On the other hand, each year brings a fresh beginning, a new opportunity. Be it high school, college, or just returning to your job from a couple weeks off, take this opportunity to reorganize your life, your mind, and - well, maybe your room a little bit too. I've always had a messy desk, but this year I decided to change that. Also - stay tuned till the end for a surprise!
My desk is pretty cool. It's antique and it's beautiful.
Unfortunately, it's also quite small.
Like most desks it's got three main drawers and one smaller one for pencils, pens, and other writing utensils. So to make sure I get the most space out of my desk - while keeping it organized - I use jewelry organizers. Keeping all my pens and pencils in rows without dividers of any sort was a mess. Since I'm constantly opening and closing my drawers they'd move around and the whole arrangement got messed up. These organizers proved to be a perfect solution.
I got one big one and one small one. In the bigger one I separated my pencils, pens, colored pencils, and assorted goods (ex: ruler, whole puncher etc). These went in the four main compartments. In the fifth one I put markers and highlighters.
In the smaller one, I put a bunch of various objects that I use almost as often as pencils and pens (ex: erasers, paper clips, etc).
The best part - organizing my desk like this didn't take long at all! Now, when I reach in I'll know exactly where everything is.
As promised I have a little surprise for you all! This post was actually a collaborations with Lex Meets World, so head over to her blog to check out her tips for avoiding stress during the school year.

Fighting off Depression
What is depression?
Well of course there's the plain old emotion. The feeling of sadness and desolation.
Then there's the disease.
Depression is by far one of the worst diseases to have. Because it's a mental sickness, your mind can distort things to be so much worse than they are - and that's what makes it really bad. The mistake so many people make is letting their depression define them.
I have depression.
That doesn't mean that my depression is my defining feature.
Depression is not one of the things that makes me who I am.
Loyalty to my friends, my love of music, the love that I feel for my family - these are the things that define me. And that's only a few. Fighting depression is hard, and at times I am overwhelmed by sadness, or numbness to joy. But like every other challenge in life depression can be overcome. You just have to push yourself.
I love my friends. Every single one of them.
Even when I feel awful I push myself to go out, to see them. And it helps - it helps so much.
No matter how bad I feel - seeing my friends always cheers me up. And I make the best memories. I take my camera with me everywhere now. Why? To see the beauty in everything. I tend not to acknowledge how great the things around me are, and taking pictures everywhere I go has really helped me see how beautiful the things around me are - and how much I have to appreciate.
I had the best time just catching up with my friends.
And, of course, adorable kids always light up the world.
The moral?
Push yourself. Do the things you love.
Even if you're not "in the mood" do it. Depression is an everyday battle.
You can win it.

What Makes a House a Home?
My room is not stylish.
The words trendy, chic, and mod will never be used to describe it. It's messy, cluttered, and filled to brim with useless items. The walls are covered in wallpaper designed for a nursery, the furniture doesn't match, and the rug is atrocious.
But I love it.
Sure it's an overall mess, but it has personality - it's eclectic.
Of course, once upon a time it was bare and blank. So what turned my room into a sanctuary, a home? The furniture? The decoration? My presence?
I don't know the answer to that. But I do know why I love my room.
My room is me. It has my personality reflected all over it and some of my greatest achievements displayed. My favorite things are right there with me - my camera, my guitar, a small keyboard. It's comfortable and filled with great memories. My room is a whole other world stuffed full with happiness and comfort.
Just today I went to visit my grandparents in their apartment. Yes, their home is small, but it's home no less. When you walk in the first thing that hits you is how cozy it is. The unique little decorations on tables and in doorways give it personality and a feeling of home.
I bring my camera with me everywhere, in case inspiration hits or an opportunity arises. I had no plans to use it today, but as I walked around I knew I had to try to capture the feeling in their home. I've been to my grandparent's apartment many times before, but I've never fully appreciated the comfort and love in their home till today. Something about it makes me feel truly at home.
To be perfectly honest, I've got no idea what makes a house into a home. I'd like to think that's its not the furniture or decor that does it. No, I think it's the people in it that make a bare house into a beautiful home.
