Going on an Adventure

One thing in my life that I really love is photography, and going on little adventures through the woods and through parks is always a great time. My friend and I love to just explore what's around us, and go where our feet take us.

This time around we went further and discovered a little pond. Right by it is a huge waterfall, a broken bridge, and an abandoned little cabin with graffiti all over it. I've taken photos there a couple of times and every time I'm happy with the result.

Capturing candid moments has got to be one of my favorite things to do. The shot below is one of my favorites that, believe it or not, was not planned prior to the shot.

If you're there at the right time, the lighting can be absolutely incredible. Some of my best shots were taken there during the golden hour.

The graffiti wall gives photos such a cool vibe - This photo below was taken right before it got dark and I have to say I'm very happy with the result.

So take a chance - go explore. Not only will you find the coolest things but you'll be burning calories! Exploring is such a fun way to stay healthy and I think you'll love the results.

What Makes a House a Home?

My room is not stylish.
The words trendy, chic, and mod will never be used to describe it. It's messy, cluttered, and filled to brim with useless items. The walls are covered in wallpaper designed for a nursery, the furniture doesn't match, and the rug is atrocious.
But I love it.
Sure it's an overall mess, but it has personality - it's eclectic.
Of course, once upon a time it was bare and blank. So what turned my room into a sanctuary, a home?  The furniture? The decoration? My presence?
I don't know the answer to that. But I do know why I love my room.
My room is me. It has my personality reflected all over it and some of my greatest achievements displayed. My favorite things are right there with me - my camera, my guitar, a small keyboard. It's comfortable and filled with great memories. My room is a whole other world stuffed full with happiness and comfort.
Just today I went to visit my grandparents in their apartment. Yes, their home is small, but it's home no less. When you walk in the first thing that hits you is how cozy it is. The unique little decorations on tables and in doorways give it personality and a feeling of home.

I bring my camera with me everywhere, in case inspiration hits or an opportunity arises. I had no plans to use it today, but as I walked around I knew I had to try to capture the feeling in their home. I've been to my grandparent's apartment many times before, but I've never fully appreciated the comfort and love in their home till today. Something about it makes me feel truly at home.

To be perfectly honest, I've got no idea what makes a house into a home. I'd like to think that's its not the furniture or decor that does it. No, I think it's the people in it that make a bare house into a beautiful home.

3 Reasons to Say Yes

Out of all the photos I've taken, this has to be one of my favorites. And let me tell you, this was not a fun shoot.
It was cold.
I mean really freaking cold.
My friend and I had to get up before dawn so we could be there for sunrise, and bundle up in layers of clothing. She would take off her huge coat for 10 seconds and then have to put it right back on - that's how cold it was.
But the result was flawless. I couldn't be happier with this photo, and the others were great too.
So take a chance, get out of your comfort zone, say yes; Here's 3 reasons to do just that.

1.
It's fun!
After a while the same old thing gets really boring (of course!), so trying something new is always a great time. Even if things don't go according to plan or schedule, chances are you'll end up liking it even more with the spontaneity.

2.
You'll meet new people.
I've got great friends, but I'd love even more people to hang with! Meeting new people most always results in new friendships, and new adventures.

3.
Experience the world.
You can't do that while locked up in your room can you? Your iPhone is great, but exploring is better. You won't know what's in your town or city till you do some looking. You could be missing out on a lot, and just not know it.

How Music Saves Me Every Single Day

Life is tough.
No matter how brave a face you put on, chances are your life's not perfect. This past year was the toughest year of my life - emotionally and physically. I gained a ton of weight, I was diagnosed with depression, and I was diagnosed with all sorts of anxiety. My self-esteem plummeted to an all time low and I felt a level of self hatred unmatched in all my life. I loathed myself so intensely that it felt unnatural to look in the mirror and not hate what stared back. I found myself unable to talk to new people and unable to open up. And yet, it was then that I truly discovered myself.
Hitting such a low was awful. It shook me to my core and changed me. As much as I try to get better, I keep regressing - and it's frustrating. But I have progressed. I have gotten better. And every little step counts.
Through it all, I found what was truly important to me.
My friends. My family. Music.
I've always held my friends and family near and dear to my heart; but it wasn't until this year that I fully realized my passion for music. Music is more universal than anything in the world. It is a way to communicate with millions of people, and emotionally on top of that. Music touches the soul in a way nothing else can. Even in my darkest hours music could make me feel. Whether it made me feel sad, happy, frustrated, angry - it always made me feel better. In that way music is more powerful than any drug, any high in the world. Music saved the little happiness I had left, and it helps my smile grow a little bigger each day.
